Plant secondary metabolites are compounds synthesized by various plants species to aid in survival in the environment. These metabolites have found a wide range of applications in nutrition, food and pharmaceutical industries due to their linkage to various health benefits. Our team develops extraction protocols and subsequent mass spectrometry analytical methods for these compounds and/or their derivatives from raw plant materials, foods, biological fluids, cells, tissues, and organs. This enables their identification, comparative profiling as well as monitoring of their distribution upon entry into the animals' or human body. Our recent focus has been in the analysis of polyphenolic compounds and hydrophobic biometabolites such as triterpenoids, Oxysterol, ginsenosides, lanosterol and inotodiol.

Research output:

  1. Isolation, Physicochemical Characterization, and Biological Properties of Inotodiol, the Potent Pharmaceutical Oxysterol from Chaga Mushroom. Antioxidants 2023, 12(2), 447.
